Every kid needs a space that’s truly their own — that’s what local non-profit (and Northeast Minneapolis neighbor) My Very Own Bed believes.

Through his work helping families move out of shelters and into homes, founder Michael Allen noticed that basic furnishings — like a child’s bed — were out of reach, leading to poor sleeping conditions for those children.

In its mission to provide new beds and linens to children of families that have recently secured stable housing, My Very Own Bed helps kids all over the Twin Cities gain access to one of the most important factors in a child’s wellbeing: healthy sleep. In addition to bed frames and mattresses, the organization assembles a “Dream Kit” for each child, which includes a blanket, pillow, stuffed animal and books.

This spring, members of the LEE Branding team were able to spend a morning volunteering with My Very Own Bed, delivering beds and Dream Kits to families and helping them get set up in their homes.

Want to help? My Very Own Bed welcomes volunteers to help with deliveries, bed frame assembly and cleaning, and always welcomes donations in the form of financial support, or Dream Kit items such as sheet sets, blankets and books.
